Weddings and walks in Ayrshire and Galloway.
Hi-life has been operating north of the border for 10 years now, with Dan Moore covering most of our weddings and private bookings. Dan moved to Edinburgh, from Leeds at that time, where he had been a high profile DJ on the electronic music scene, DJing and promoting the night Superconductor. Superconductor used to feature a lot of legendary names from the Detroit and Berlin scenes, including the likes of Jeff Mills, Francois K, Carl Craig and Andrew Weatherall, to name but a few.
Dan is now recording under the name Don Lardy & is looking to get back involved with the electronic music scene, as well as continuing to work with us playing bespoke DJ sets for private events. He’s been busy playing many parties for us throughout Scotland over the spring and summer & has a fairly full diary going forwards.
Sometimes if Dan is booked I travel up from Leeds to play weddings. Last year I played in Fife (Myres Castle), the Trossachs (Loch Ord), and Easterbrook House in Dumfries and a bunch of dates in Edinburgh in the Caves at festival time. On my travels I like to combine by DJ work with my love of the great outdoors (walking and mountain biking). I’ve managed to cross off all the 7 Stanes trails on recent visits.
This year I’ve played two dates north of the border. The first in Ayrshire at the excellent Waterside Hotel in West Kilbride & recently a marquee wedding in Kirkbean, on the Galloway coast, just south of Dumfries. As a result I’ve managed to visit some beautiful places, like the Isle of Arran, Culzean Castle on the Ayrshire coast, I did an 18 mile stroll round the Devil’s Beef Tub from Moffat & the Grey Mare’s Tail, a waterfall & loch that is now looked after by the National Trust for Scotland. In additiion I’ve managed to fit in a bit of record shopping in Glasgow & a visit to the amazing Kelvingrove Art Gallery & museum.
On my trip up to Ayrshire in February I also managed to catch up with Dan Moore in Irvine, to discuss future plans both north & south of the border. (We do a large number of gigs in northumberland and Cumbria, which Dan sometimes covers). A few years back he did one on Holy Island, which mas a bit tricky logistically with the times of the tides!
There are a few pictures below from my two trips this year. I’m looking forward to another trip to Fife in the near future too.
